Professional Shower & Bathroom Regrouting
The Practical Alternative to Full Bathroom Demolition
We mechanically cut out deteriorated, water-damaged cement grout, treat the joint cavities to neutralise mould, and repack them with flexible, water-resistant compounds so your shower stays clean and sheds water properly.
What We Do & The Problem We Solve
Most leaking or unsightly showers do not require a complete bathroom rebuild. When tiles are securely bonded to the wall and floor, the failure point is almost always the cement grout between them.
Traditional cement grout is naturally porous. Over several years of daily hot showers, body washes and household cleaning chemicals gradually erode the surface cement matrix. Once the joint wears thin, water wicks through into the tile adhesive layer, allowing mould spores to take hold deep inside the joint where standard scrubbing cannot reach.
Our regrouting process rakes out that degraded material to a consistent depth, sterilises the joint, and repacks it with fresh, high-performance grout. We also cut out perished silicone along internal corners and replace it with flexible sanitary silicone to accommodate normal building movement.
Signs Your Shower Needs Regrouting
- Grout lines that remain black or mottled even after vigorous scrubbing with bleach
- Powdery, sandy or missing grout, particularly around the shower floor waste and lower wall rows
- Fine hairline fissures running along the length of tile joints
- Grout eroded well below the tile edge, leaving recessed channels that hold pooling water
- Persistent musty bathroom odours that linger after the exhaust fan has run
- Damp or swollen timber skirting boards adjacent to the shower enclosure

Our Regrouting Process
Every step is executed with commercial-grade tooling to ensure a long-lasting, watertight result.
Mechanical Rake-Out of Old Grout
We carefully remove degraded grout using dedicated oscillating oscillating tools and hand rakes to a minimum depth of 3–4mm, providing sufficient mechanical key for the new compound without chipping glazed tile edges.
Cavity Sanitisation & Vacuuming
Joints are vacuumed using HEPA filtration to extract loose grit and treated with a targeted anti-fungal solution to neutralise mould spores embedded in the adhesive bed.
Substrate & Joint Moisture Check
We check the exposed joint cavities to confirm the substrate is reasonably dry and verify that tiles remain firmly adhered before introducing fresh material.
Solid Joint Compaction
Fresh polymer-fortified grout is firmly packed into joints using rubber grout floats, ensuring complete depth compaction with no pinholes, voids, or air bubbles.
Perimeter Sanitary Silicone Sealing
All internal wall-to-wall and wall-to-floor junctions are sealed with premium neutral-cure sanitary silicone containing mould inhibitors to allow structural expansion.

We remove degraded grout to a clean uniform depth and thoroughly sanitise the joint cavity before injecting new compound.
Is This Service Right for Your Bathroom?
We believe in straightforward trade advice. Here is an honest breakdown of when this service succeeds, and when a different approach is necessary.
When Shower Regrouting Is Suitable
- Your tiles are firmly adhered with no hollow or drummy sounds when tapped
- The underlying waterproofing membrane remains functional and not ruptured
- Existing grout is stained, crumbling, sandy, or harbouring stubborn mould
- Your shower leak is caused by surface water penetrating eroded tile joints and split silicone
When Regrouting Is NOT Suitable
- Tiles are loose, drummy, or visibly lifting off the wall or floor substrate
- Water is actively leaking through a ruptured sub-tile waterproofing membrane into the ceiling below
- Underlying wall framing has suffered severe timber rot, causing substantial wall movement
- Cracks extend straight through tiles, indicating foundation settlement rather than grout wear
Honest Trade Advice: Waterproofing Membranes vs. Regrouting
Regrouting and perimeter silicone replacement restore damaged, porous, or mouldy joints. However, regrouting addresses grout-level water ingress but cannot repair or restore a failed waterproofing membrane. Under Australian building standards (AS 3740), internal waterproofing membranes sit beneath the screed and tile bed. If that membrane or structural substrate has failed, regrouting alone cannot fix an underlying leak. We provide clear, honest assessments from photos and on-site checks so you only pay for what actually solves the problem.
Materials & Technical Options
Polymer-Fortified Sanitary Cement Grout
High-density cementitious compound blended with polymers to improve flexibility, water-resistance, and resistance to everyday bathroom cleaning.
Full Epoxy Grout Upgrade
For showers subjected to heavy daily family use, we offer a two-part epoxy grout upgrade that cures into a non-porous, stain-resistant resin matrix.
Neutral-Cure Sanitary Silicone
Commercial grade silicone formulated specifically for wet areas, resistant to black mould growth and capable of accommodating building movement.
Curing & Shower Wait Times
Follow the product manufacturer's technical data sheet for exact curing requirements. As general trade guidance, the shower recess must remain completely dry for 24 to 48 hours following regrouting to ensure polymer binders and silicone beads fully cure.
Why Homeowners Choose Regrouting
Fraction of Renovation Costs
Regrouting avoids the thousands of dollars required for tile demolition, new plumbing, sheeting, and retiling.
Completed in a Single Day
Most single shower recesses are completed within 4 to 6 hours, minimising disruption to your household routine.
Restores Fresh Visual Appearance
Uniform, clean grout lines immediately transform tired, discoloured tiles back to a crisp, professional finish.
Prevents Hidden Moisture Ingress
Repacking joints stops water soaking into the adhesive bed and reduces dampness behind shower walls.
